Pilot Chemical honors commitment to sustainability with two staff appointments

Pilot Chemical Corp., a privately held, independent global specialty chemicals company, has made two appointments that will help reinforce its commitment to sustainability.

Hans Hummel has been named sustainability manager, a newly created position, and Jeff Crume as commercial director.

Hummel will be responsible for developing, overseeing and administering Pilot’s sustainability strategy, which includes environmental, social and governance (ESG) goals and initiatives around the four pillars of sustainability: products, people, planet and governance and ethics.

Crume has been appointed Commercial Director – Biocides. Crume brings to this position a wealth of commercial experience gained from his more than 20 years of experience in sales, marketing and business management in the chemical industry. In this position, which he assumes as Hummel transitions to chief sustainability officer, Crume will be responsible for the profitable growth and management of Pilot Chemical’s biocides business, including profitability, development and strategy execution and product management activities.

Crume joined Pilot Chemical in April 2017 and has held positions of increasing responsibility, most recently as Director of Industrial Sales. Prior to joining Pilot Chemical, he worked for Lubrizol as an Account Manager and for Clariant as a Regional Account Manager for the North East.

Hummel joined the company in December 2018 and most recently served as Commercial Director – Biocides. Prior to joining Pilot, he worked for Lonza as Global Marketing Manager and Business Development Manager. Additionally, at BASF Corporation, he served as product manager for biocides and market development manager for the water treatment industry.

Hummel earned his MBA in Marketing and Operations from Indiana University. He also received a certificate in corporate sustainability from the Harvard Extension School and is a candidate for a master’s degree in sustainability.

The appointments follow the company’s recently released sustainability report and will help align resources to better serve customers.

“We are fortunate to have Hans and Jeff on the team – they bring great expertise to our business and are passionate about our work and our customers,” said Glynn Goertzen, Vice President of Technology and innovation and business development for Pilot Chemical Corp. “Combined with the progress we are making against our sustainability strategy and the number of innovations and new product developments on the horizon, we are well positioned for the future.”

Through its sustainability strategy, Pilot will measure and report on its progress on 11 goals that cover a range of ESG topics. Click here to view last year’s report.
