WASHINGTON – In November, the United States House of Representatives passed and the President enacted the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA). This follows the passage of the legislation by the US Senate in August. Senator Bill Cassidy, MD (R-LA) led efforts to draft and adopt this landmark investment in Louisiana’s roads, airports, ports, rural broadband, and flood mitigation projects. He also made sure that the legislation stimulates Louisiana’s energy industry by supporting hydrogen centers and carbon sequestration technologies, among other projects.

Chambers and professional associations across Louisiana have joined with Senator Cassidy in praising this legislation. Here is what they say:

Louisiana Asphalt Pavement Association: “For decades, Congress needed a major transportation bill to improve our roads and bridges. Senator Cassidy introduced this bill and Louisiana will benefit immensely from his efforts. We appreciate his advocacy on behalf of our State and its citizens ”, – Erich Ponti, Executive Director

General contractors associated in Louisiana: “The recently passed Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act means a lot to the Louisiana construction industry. We have waited more than 20 years for Congress to act on the infrastructure needs of states. The involvement of Senator Bill Cassidy in the drafting of the IIJA is not an advantage for Louisiana but for the whole country. The IIJA meets all the needs of infrastructure, highways, bridges, ports, coasts, drainage, clean water, hazardous waste mitigation, and so on ”, – Ken Naquin, Executive Director

Louisiana Ports Association: “The money provided for the modernization of the ports by the Law on Investment in Infrastructure and Jobs will benefit all regions of our state. It is a great victory for Louisiana commerce and industry. We thank Senator Cassidy for his leadership in passing this bill ”, – Jennifer Marusak, Executive Director

An Acadian: “We appreciate the efforts of Senator Cassidy to keep the Infrastructure and Jobs and Investment in Employment Act focused on its purpose. This long-term investment will better position our infrastructure networks, such as the I-49 South corridor, to meet the needs of the future. Crucial funding for rural broadband and flood mitigation will also help improve the quality of life in Acadiana and attract new businesses and talent to our community. We are grateful to Senator Cassidy for his leadership on behalf of Louisiana, ”Troy Wayman, President and CEO

Ascension Chamber of Commerce: “The Ascension Chamber wishes to congratulate Senator Bill Cassidy for his leadership in securing funding for transportation infrastructure for Louisiana through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. Recognizing the direct correlation between improved transportation infrastructure and economic development, Senator Cassidy knew how important this increased investment was to our state, especially for the production and transportation of global products made here in Ascension. As Ascension Parish continues to be a leader in the state in terms of economic growth, we ask that the infrastructure needs of our parish be prioritized when allocating this additional funding by ensuring that our local road networks are not overloaded by the growth expected in the parish. ”

Bayou Industrial Group: “Our recovery from Hurricane Ida is only possible if we have the money to build dikes, repair our coastline and strengthen our network. Our energy industry must also remain competitive, including wherever there are policies to reduce emissions. The Law on Investment in Infrastructure and Jobs meets all of these needs. This is only possible because of Senator Bill Cassidy, and we appreciate his work on behalf of Louisiana and our workers.

Capital Region Industry for Sustainable Infrastructure Solutions (CRISIS): “CRISIS thanks US Senator Bill Cassidy for his work in getting the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) enacted. Our organization advocates for transportation and infrastructure solutions in the Capital Region so that residents of the Baton Rouge region spend less time in traffic. The $ 6 billion the IIJA provides Louisiana for roads and bridges will go a long way in reducing congestion in the region. We appreciate the leadership of Senator Cassidy in Washington ”, – Scott Kirkpatrick, Executive Director

Northeastern Louisiana Economic Alliance: “Northeast Louisiana is pleased to benefit from investments recently voted by Congress. Senator Cassidy’s participation in the drafting of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and his hard work on broadband for rural areas will prove to be a dramatic change and upgrade. Rural businesses can benefit from Internet commerce and advertising. Roads and bridges are in dire need of improvement; our ports and airports will be additional beneficiaries of new or improved infrastructure. But for those new dollars, critical needs in northeast Louisiana would not be quickly met. We appreciate the leadership of this truly bipartisan bill and the fact that the Senator directed and disseminated the Louisiana portion statewide ”, – Tana Trichel, President / CEO

St. Mary’s Parish Chamber of Commerce: “The St. Mary’s Parish Chamber of Commerce would like to thank Senator Bill Cassidy for his bipartisan leadership while working with the Senate to pass the infrastructure bill. St. Mary’s Parish will benefit from many of the key aspects proposed in the reconstruction of roads and bridges that are desperately needed throughout the parish. A major upgrade to broadband infrastructure will help connectivity in our rural areas while strengthening connection in our municipalities. The restoration, preservation and protection of the coastal parish of Sainte-Marie, including protection against storms as well as the dredging of the Atchafalaya, are key to the vitality of our parish. Upgrading the water distribution and wastewater treatment plants will ensure that our parish will continue to maintain water safety ratings with DHH. We look forward to working with the Senator and his staff to ensure that our parish receives our fair share of this monumental bill ”, – Ed Verdin, Vice President

West Baton Rouge Chamber of Commerce: “The West Baton Rouge Chamber of Commerce welcomes the passage of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA). This bill brings us one step closer to a new bridge over the Mississippi River that will help our residents and support economic development. The money available for port upgrades, hydrogen hubs, carbon capture and other energy projects will also boost industry in our parish. We are grateful for the leadership of Senator Cassidy on this bill. We believe the IIJA will make West Baton Rouge Parish a better place to live and work ”, – Patrick Hobbins, President
